Review of In the Woods by Tana French

In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1)In the Woods by Tana French
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In the short time that I've been active here on goodreads I have come to trust a few reviewers and look to add to my to-read list when they recommend a good book. Emily May is one such reviewer. If I come across a book on my own - which I do from time to time :) - I look to see if she has read it and what her impression was. So when I came across In the Woods and read Emily May's review, I knew I had to put it on my list.

I'm not even going to attempt a full review when Emily's and Nataliya's review are far better than I can hope to write. I will tell you how I felt and still feel a week later.

To say that I was sad when I finished is an understatement. I felt such a deep sorrow that I couldn't even muster up any tears. Trust me, I love a book that can rattle my emotions and have been known to read through tears, but I was so stunned and felt so bad that nothing came out. I think about the thousand opportunities to right the ship that were wasted. I think about the sincere "I'm sorry"(s) that were never said. Much of the pain could have been avoided but we humans got in our own way. Such is life.

I had no problem with the realistic ending.

If you're a fan of mystery/suspense/thriller, read this.

Review of Sam by Iain Rob Wright

SamSam by Iain Rob Wright
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I wanted to like this book. I love horror stories and so wanted to enjoy this book, but I didn't. I read this book in a dark room with the only illumination coming from the kindle for pc on my laptop, yet I never felt scared. While there are events that take place in this story that if I experienced in real life would cause me to become incontinent, both fecal and urinary, reading about them did nothing for or to me.

I couldn't empathize with the characters or make sense of some of their actions. At one point in the story the man charged with looking after the safety and well-being of Sam and his mother, decides to leave them in order to get help since the phones are down. Why not send one of the other minions to get help? They're screw-ups? Don't trust them? Then why leave them with your charges?

There was so much denial from the characters, they even had me concocting alternative theories like magnetic door locks, the house was actually in a dome or Bush/Cheney had something to with it.

I've heard good things about the author, Iain Rob Wright, and while I don't recommend this title(even the ending wasn't enough to bump this up to 2 stars), I look forward to reading some of his other works.

Review of Outcome by Edward W. Robertson on goodreads.com

Outcome (Breakers, #0.5)Outcome by Edward W. Robertson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked the story, I did not like Chip much. I wanted Ellie to leave him behind on several occasions. If I had been quarantined and one of my secret squirrel exes came to free me, I'd show a lot more gratitude than Chip did.
